Client Brief – Studio Extension
To provide a light and airy extension which overlooks the surrounding countryside and is large enough to be used as an artist’s studio and sitting room.
The footprint maximises the internal space by providing access from both the existing lounge and sitting rooms without encroaching too much into the garden, and provides adequate access around to the rear elevation.
The front elevation was designed to match with the farmhouse look of the original building, with large glazed areas to the side and rear elevations.
Vaulted ceilings are provided throughout and supported by steel ridge beams.
The side elevation glazing is supported by a bespoke steelwork frame which has been hidden within the wall construction.
Rooflights are provided in the side and rear elevations, again to provide maximum natural daylight.
Underfloor heating was installed in the whole of the extension; which supplies a uniform heat throughout.
The client was delighted when planning permission was granted for the project, and even more so with the finished building. So much so that the same design and build team have been instructed to produce a scheme to redesign the existing kitchen and dining area layout to provide a more user-friendly modern open-plan kitchen/dining room.
