Client Brief – Barn Conversion
To produce working design drawings for building regulation approval; based on previously approved planning drawings to convert derelict barns into a dwelling.
The internal layout was designed to provide modern living facilities for a family within the shell of existing barns which were previously used as cattle sheds with attached storage facilities.
The existing ground floors were broken out and replaced with a new insulated concrete floor slabs. All external walls were assessed by an engineer and rebuilt as were necessary and also insulated to current standards. The existing roof was replaced with a new insulated roof and the existing trusses were re-used where practical to provide features in various rooms.
A new oil powered hot water and heating system was installed which was supplemented by solar panels being installed on the roof on south facing elevation to the two storey building; along with a separate group of panels located in the fields to the rear of the property.
